Beanie Baby Tag Generations That Make a Difference
While there are dozens of different tag generations of Ty Beanie Babies, the first three tag generations affect their value.
NO TAG:
If your Beanie Baby is missing its heart tag, check to see if it has a black and white tush tag. A black & white tush tag indicates that your Beanie Baby originally had either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation heart tag. If it has a red and white tush tag with no name on the tag, it definitely had a 3rd generation heart tag.
FIRST GENERATION: Early '94 to Mid '94
To the right is an example of a 1st Generation heart tag (swing tag). There are only 37 Ty Beanie Babies made with a 1st Generation Hang Tag. It is easy to identify a 1st generation hang tag because it is a single ply double-sided design and does not open like a book. All Beanie Babies that have a 1st generation hang tag also have a 1st generation black and white tush tag.
Ty Beanie Babies, Brownie, Punchers, Patti (deep fuchsia) were only produced with a 1st generation heart tag.
SECOND GENERATION: Mid '94 to Early '95
There are only 46 Ty Beanie Babies made with a 2nd Generation Hang Tag. It is easy to identify a 2nd generation hang tag because it opens like a book but has a skinny "ty" on the front.
THIRD GENERATION: Early '95 to Early '96
There are 92 Beanie Babies made with a 3rd Generation Hang Tag. It is easy to identify a 3rd generation hang tag because it opens like a book and has a fat "ty" on the front and no star. All Beanie Babies that have a 3rd generation hang tag may have had a 1st, or 2nd generation tush tag. If your Beanie Baby is missing its hang tag but it has a black and white tush tag, it could have had a 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation hang tag. If it has a red and white tush tag with no name on the tag, it definitely had a 3rd generation hang tag.
Ty Beanie Babies that were only produced with a third generation hang tag include: Bronty, Rex, Steg, and Peanut the royal blue elephant.
